Home Remedies For Hypothyroidism - Treat This Problem Naturally

Hypothyroidism refers to a condition where the thyroid gland is unable to produce required amounts of thyroid hormones. People with hypothyroidism may have a puffy face, pale and dry skin, delicate nails, brittle hair, cold intolerance, weakness in the muscles, hoarse voice, and heavy menstrual periods. Other symptoms of this thyroid condition include constipation, fatigue, lethargy, increase in the blood pressure level, and depression. Hypothyroidism is more common in women above 50 years of age. Studies reveal that babies born to mothers who suffer from hypothyroidism are more likely to have birth defects, including intellectual and developmental problems. Fortunately, there are effective tests to detect hypothyroidism and this condition can be successfully treated with hormone replacement therapy. Moreover, mild hypothyroidism can be managed and controlled with home remedies for hypothyroidism.

Seaweed is an efficient home remedy for hypothyroidism. It can be effectively used to promote the function of thyroid glands. This popular sea vegetable contains a lot of iodine, which is essential for the production of thyroid hormones. Seaweed also has high amounts of tyrosine, an amino acid that helps thyroid glands to produce two important thyroid hormones, triiodothyronine or T3 and thyroxine or T4. Performing aerobic exercises regularly is one among the important home remedies for hypothyroidism. Also, include in your diet foods and supplements that provide your body with iodine, zinc, tyrosine, vitamin A, vitamin B2, vitamin B3, vitamin B6, vitamin C, and vitamin E.

There are several herbs that are widely regarded as effective home remedies for hypothyroidism. Regular intake of a Kelp supplement is a good way to deal with your low active thyroid. Your medical practitioner can assist you determine the right dose of kelp supplement for you. This herb, with its rich iodine content, is helpful to improve thyroid gland function. However, you should drink plenty of water while taking kelp supplement in order to avoid fluid retention.

Ginger can also support thyroid function by controlling cholesterol levels. Black cohosh is another herb that can be used to manage thyroid gland function. It also stabilizes estrogen levels and is beneficial to treat the menstrual symptoms related to the underactive thyroid. Take a teaspoon of Swedish bitters everyday to reduce the symptoms of this condition. Avoid everything that contains fluoride, chlorine, or bromine, as these halogens adversely affect the function of thyroid. Studies have revealed that vitamin D is a necessary for the production of thyroid hormones and so exposure to sunlight is considered to be good for hypothyroidism.
